Storm!

Biggest one in a while.
Fez and I headed out around 8pm and got all sorts of snowy.
I needed a tauntaun to cut open and crawl into.

Not today

At least I got out before 10 pm, right? Pretty, clear starry night. There were some vampires workin a backhoe on a foundation. Must have cement coming tomorrow I reckon.
Fez hung with me for longer than usual. Got some "freshies" again.
Oh! I skiied at DV with Mike. Took a run with Sue. Had a physical before that and learned a new exam after all that. not a bad day.

Some day

Someday I'll run more than a mile again at a time other than 10 pm.
Someday I'll be that cool.
My dog still loves it.
It was snowing and right lovely.

HEMATOLOGY

let me be.

I thought I might do an old favorite crossfit. Knowing that I have become a marshmallow, I cut the reps in half. By the time I finished the pushups (so weak), I decided not to run the second mile. Gotta start somewhere, right?
1 mile in 7:34
50 pullups (15,15,11,9)
100 pushups(30,20,20,20,10) - I know!
150 air squats (50, 50, 30, 20)

Stay with it? Yeah, I probably should...

Slower than b4

6:37 from a dead start on the treadster, then apple pie and vanilla ice cream! Yum. I miss long runs and runs with friends. Frogman, BHM, Dan, Sean, Jeff. Some day. Soon I hope...

Surprise

Have I ever mentioned that I am married to the most amazing woman? She pulled off such a fun surprise party full of my "eclectic" (overused word of 2009) friends. total blast. Over 40 adults and probably as many kids.
My split personalities were going crazy trying to talk to everyone and catch up with people I hadn't seen in a while. Truly surprised and amazed. It really made me see how lucky I am. Obviously I have an amazing family, with whom I got to bowl as the distractor for the party, but this made me see how many amazing friends I'm lucky enough to have.

Oh and the poem? PRICELESS

So, on the way home from clinic, I pulled over and ran a mile point one on a packed snowy trail. 7:30 pace.
Gotta do it.

Cross country

Tied into the 100 trail again, but went backwards on it for a spell. 4.35 miles in 49 min. 800 feet elevation. I chose the trail that ended (oops) and then dropped down the hillside amid game trails and bare scrub oak. Got me some good pin striping on my legs. I giggled when a tree took my hat off and threw it on the ground.

Made it to dinner with my fam and parents. Very nice. Thanks!

"You shouldn't be doing that with your patients anyway, Alex." Haha

Wet

So wet. It has been awfully warm lately and at one point, there was a big puddle about 3 inches deep, i didn't see it until Fez and I were splashing through it. Fun mile.
Herd of deer crossing the road in emigration.

Proud but sneaky

That's me to a T.

Proud of her, but sneaky for getting in some wet cold runs with el jefe and balinda.

Got back from my one miler with Fez at 11:56. Warm pretty February night.

6:04

dreaded treadmill. From a dead start - no warm up. good study break.
Didn't end up with blisters, just sore skin. Nothin the 5fingers couldn't handle.

Hot spots

I was on the treadmill for a bit more than I'm used to barefoot. So I may end up with blisters on the right. Probably not though.
6:20 for the first mile, then a 10 sec break while I slowed the belt.
Second mile at 7:14. Good enough. I almost went for a third but wussed out due to the hot spots. Wah.
Then I started doing some situps and pullups and pushups, but lately when I do those I think - What's the point? Do I actually think my body is going to get better than this??

Smiley face emoticon.

Mirror

I think I need a room in my house where one wall is a mirror. A workout room with a treadmill and a stationary bike. But then I'd just flex and stare at myself while I did my little mandatory miles at the end of the busy days. Kinda like today!

Dark and icy

Long day. Long drive. Short run. Fez looked spry and sleek with his new doo. I wonder if I did too. Brewster joined us for a bit, thanks boy- push!

Drama

Oh drama. I shouldn't have answered the phone. Such a beautiful 5.75 mile run on part of the 100 stomping grounds after a funfilled day of school and frisbee. I probably should have tackled rob rather than push him. I'm such a jerk. Anyway, the run took an hour cause I walked while I talked to I about VII and the issues they are having. Don't get me wrong, family is more important. Then II pipes in on the emails. Oh bother. I hope everyone can work it out. I really really do...

No shirt, no shoes

Makes Jack a cold boy. Yeah. Kind of a stretch. But it was a really fun frisbee day. We had the Aussie back but lost Access. Wet grass. Cold toes. Lots of carnage. Good good times.

Woke up this am and got on the treadmill for a barefoot 7:28 mile. It seemed like the right thing to do.

V-day

How did this holiday get to where it is now? Society.

It was a nice day for a run, though. I love these big breaks. 4 and a quarter in my 5 fingers. My knee feels better. Placebo fingers? Maybe. But I think I'll stick with em. If it wasn't so cold on my little toeseys, yknow? 8:45s

Yerba Mate...

That's what got me through my test this morning and class most days, too. Then a 3 mile jaunt at 25 minutes or so. Take it easy? ok!

More snow

You'd think we'd all be over snow by now, but it was cool to have a bunch of heavy wet snow today. Snowblower was running, got 2 snowpeople built in the backyard. Had the kids out there. Nice day. The usual 10pm miler with Fez was dark and I got "freshies" 'cause they don't plow the east side.

My right knee has been aching all day - not to mention my ankle and foot. I think it's all coming from my aching back and I hope it is not chondromalacia or some crap like that. Time will tell now.

Fear*

I know how yous kids likes em extra sloppy. Going up coyote was soggy and squishy. Then I got fresh tracks on the snowy trail. Perfect weather.

After an unanticipated stop 3 miles in, it got a bit darker than i thought. I started thinking about how many coyote footprints I had followed in to where I was. I started to hear stuff. Then, it happened for the the first time since 1995 when I solo hiked Provo Peak and a mountain chicken scared the crap out of me: the primal scream. Twice. There was something there, ok? I don't think I can reproduce that sound without activation of the basic survival instinct. At the end of the run there was another something in the bushes. I clapped my hands real loud and hollered. It ran away. Just over 6 miles. One hour (+). Solo.

Then I came home to the most delicious meal that I have ever eaten. My wife is an incredible cook. Wow. I am so lucky. Ring out the church bells. Strike up the band!

Oh and one more thing

Or one more mile. Nuttin special here, just ran a mile while my dog cruised the neighborhood. It's sad that there will be houses there in a matter of months. But it might be good, too. At least we are getting a little park over there. Yahoo.

Fun Friz

You know, I think the sprint interval repeats of frisbee are only going to make me a better runner and may pick up the slack of my one mile daily (or nightly) jaunts. Fez and I headed out again for a quick jog before bed. Good boy.

The least I can do.

Seems like that's all I'm doing lately. I dislike treadmills, but I think it was better than chasing bunnies and dodging coyotes out there at 10 pm in the cold cold dark. 7:04 barefoot treadmill. Better than nothin I suppose.

Full moon fever

Una milla con el perro. Bonita.

Monday, February 6, 2012

Moon Shadow

It is so bright out there! Me, fez, the moon. One measly mile. Nice.

Flashcards on the prairie

Or "3 miles of flashcards."

Spent almost half an hour out there: slow, soft snow, mud, coyote and moose tracks. Lovely.

Creepy Chiropractor

Plans to rise early and run with my "creepy" friend failed when I awoke at 7 with a headache and feeling hungry. It was enough to talk me right out of it. So I slept til 9. Lovely. After a couple of hours at the library and lunch at the new place in town with the fam, it was time to get out under sunny blue skies for a cold run. Luckily Frogman was up for a second round of running - I hear that's how you prepare for a long training run. We explored a bit and had an adventure. Mud, thorns, trespassing and, as always, fun conversation. Loved it.
6.6 miles in an hour of moving time. About 850 ft elevation.

Scrubs

I never thought of scrubs as a running accessory, but that is what I usually wear on my late night mile. Tonight I rounded out my ensemble with "church socks", a hoodie, black hat, black gloves, and my pink laced brooks adrenaline with countless miles on them. Perfect for a breezy clear starry winter's eve.

I'm pretty sure Fez just sat where I started because he was there when I finished. Poor dog. His hips hurt.

Pants

Did the 4.5 mile loop solo at 3:15. Didn't time it. It was slow. Wore my 14 year old polypro pants under some shorts and they were off my butt and loosely hangin in the crotch of my shorts before I hit one mile. So I hopped behind some shrubs and took them off. I left them there. Should I go get them?
Nice and cold. Lots of back dullness/stiffness. I wish I had a curve. Felt good after being cooped up all day, though.

271.3

That's how many miles I put on my car today.
But it had to be done. Sad Day. A great man left.

Ran a mile with the giant in the light wet warm snow at 9:30.
