Share me another Smile

I really like this race. Its fun. Lots of people I like do it. Specifically this year, some of my very favorite people:
Matt, Nicky, Matti, Nick, Brian, Brandon, Danny, Staci, Cuz Lauren, even cuz Terry. Most importantly - Child and Spouse. Mom and Dad, thanks for watching the masses of chilluns while we all went out and conquered.
I probably should have won this, but I didn't. I got third. First in the 30-year-olds, though. Whoopy!
I feel totally rotten about missing the kids swim start. Not cool. Sorry E! She only biked and ran.
My velcro came unlaced and I pedalled the whole thing without doing my main strap. I also had a flat within an hour of finishing, sso who knows what my pressure was during the ride. I ran crappy for over a mile, then pretty swift, increasing the pace until the end. I think I ran about a 21+ min 5k. Biked just over 30 min (11 mi) and swam just under 7 (400) - thats so slow for me! 59:17 So transitions were somewhere mixed in there. Always fun. Next year I really will be more on it with my kiddo and help her have a great race. Then I'll do mine in a costume and just enjoy it. It was cool to be in T2 while Wife was in T1. Staggered start; she started at least 20+ minutes after me.
Love the fam.

Slow Ride, Take it Easy

Sorry, Wife. You're not slow. I just mean that I rode slower than usual. We did the two lap, 11 mile smile course, then ran for a few minutes. Looking forward to sharing my smile. About 50 minutes. Legs are feeling pretty good.

Thomas

Thanks for runnin with me Thomas! Later start than I thought left me in a long sleeve polypro top. At least I took off the tights. 9 miles on a cool trail that Chris maintains.
Then we ran into him and Amy. Hi guys!
One hour 34 minutes. Good run. I liked it a lot.
HR in the 160s and 170s for a most of it. I got used to it.

Then Wife wanted to time the swim for this Saturday (and so did I).
So we took the kids for an our and took turns on the 400. I got 5:47, but I can't be sure that it wasn't only 350. I'm going to pretend I am sure I did all 400.
We'll see how that changes on Saturday.

Then I walked over a mile home from the Chiropracter. Thanks Frog Man. I'm totally counting the mile! Ok, maybe I won't.

Taper?

Well, this "training season" has been pretty rough. I thought that since I had the base of two ironmans in 6 months, I could easily build on it and get it done. Physically it made sense. But with career goals and school and wife's rebirth of running, it was not a good idea. I hope the damage is reversible and I can't wait until this beast is OVER.
Sorry Wife. Sorry Kids.

Today I got out on duty and put in an hour and a half on the trails.
8.75 miles. 2800 up and down. Beautiful.
That will have to do I guess.

Thank you Buck!

So, after a great day a Lagoon, I returned to Farmington planning to run 40 mi. I stashed a cooler at big mountain and drove forever to my start. The weather was great! I wandered a little looking for the trail. Thank goodness for my GPS watch. Then after about 10.5 miles, I was on an exposed ridge above Bountiful. The clouds got thicker. The lightning got closer. The rain came down hard. Then the hail came down. I, in my sweet little thin vest, started shivering after hunkering down under some pines for a half hour. I ate all my food and drank a bunch of EFS and got up the cajones to head back toward Bountiful and hope for a hitch hike. I made it 5 feet and it came down harder! So I stopped under the next pine stand and called the wife.
"help" I cried like a big baby. "I'm cold." (3700 up, 3000 down)
So she headed toward Bountiful and I started down the remote dirt road. Just then I heard the rumbling of a truck behind me. I stuck out my thumb and gave the most pathetic look I could. Inside the truck were three gruff pipeline workers, returning to Bountiful from their work site. Keep in mind, I was dressed like this:

So they were very nice and tolerant of me. I may have even got a side job out of it!
I met up with Sarah and the kids and we went to lunch.
I didn't want her driving the scary wet dirt road back to my car and I wanted a bit more of a workout, so I ran the last 7.2 miles back up to my car. (2600 up) By then, the weather was beautiful. 4 hours 40 minutes running all together.
All in all I felt good, but I was bummed to have to bail on my last chance at a big run. Plus I will never hear the end of it.
I guess I have what I have and from now on it'll be slightly shorter higher intensity stuff. Good times.

Thank you, Wife. I know you care.

Good Evening

Got the boys to go out with me at about 7:30 pm. It was so nice. Practice loops and good hills. 3.5 miles. 34 minutes. I should have kept going, but I think I might have become a social runner somewhere.

Wuss

So, i pack up camp as quick as I can. (me vs 3)
And half way to my ma's I get a call.
"We're not doing Timp"
What? OK well, we met at my ma's and then went up the Y trail and on to Provo Peak, except we never made Provo Peak. Or even the base of it. Oh well. My bro.s are fun to hang out with. So we'll count it as an ABO outing.
Probably seven miles total with Alex, David and my side trip.
about 3 and a half hours.

Trail Work

Spent a beautiful day with the Cottonwood Canyons Foundation in Mineral Basin.
Its part of the entry fee to do 8 hours of trail work. So I swung a pulaski. Broke a McLeod handle, rolled some rocks, rolled my backpack. Had to listen to Aristotle. It was good. It even included about a 3/4 mile hike there and the same back with a ride on the Tram. nice.

Then on the way home I hit the Jordanelle perimeter. Just a 6 miler in an hour. I wish my bowels would NOT decide they need to empty a half hour into every damburn run.
Gross, huh?

Recharge

After a long drive and long day of Peruanos, I stopped off for an hour trail run in the 5fingers. Not too rocky, several stream crossings and perfect evening weather made it refreshing and makes me like trail running again. 6.25 miles.

biking with my babe

That title is SO cheesy, its sickening. But it was fun. We hit the trails for about an hour, maybe a bit more. She did great. No crashes. It was a beautiful time of evening and the weather was perfect. A downhilling monkey scared her good, so that was funny.

one

I put on the 5fingers and set out to jog for a while. I did one mile and had to visit the little boys room. I never went back out. Overtrained? Burned out? You tell me.
Hopefully I'll do some shorter stuff this week. One more long one the next week and then a bunch of short stuff. The clock is ticking. I want to be done!

Compression socks, EFS, shake weights and mandates

38 miles
Ten hours twenty four minutes
13,500 feet up and down
Wrong way around Catherine and Ant Knolls
Tried the EFS and liked it. But it made it so I felt like I didn't need to eat. I still tried to eat, but I only ate 1 sandwich, 2 bananas, 4 bags of chomps, 2 snickers.
I tried eating another sandy, but couldn't. Carried 3 sandies home and a bag of chips.
Handheld bottles, not my fave, but functional. I think full strength EFS in the belt and water in the shake weights (or vice versa) might be the key.
Also eating meals.
Met Aaron at Brighton. Good man. 4 x CABG in 12/08
Mandate with Dan, good guy, great pacer. H2o refill and coke.
It got SO hot.
Way too soon after the last weeks's big run. Looks like small ones for a couple weeks, then a biggie, then the taper down.
